The Education Committee of AIGA-SB is interested in educational issues concerning our professional and student members. We are involved in promoting educational programs within the club and acting as a liaison between schools and colleges in the area. We have targeted several areas where we can be active during the year:
LIAISON between colleges and high-school design programs within the region and help provide them with:
- Speakers on careers in graphics and multimedia in the classroom
- Judges for student shows and portfolio reviews at the school
HOST or act as a RESOURCE or SPONSOR for educational programs that members and students could attend. This can include panel discussions, “meet the pros” debates, Adobe workshops or even a creative conference open to the public and schools.
PORTFOLIO REVIEW DAY – Provide an annual weekend Portfolio Review Day for design/photography/web/multimedia students in Santa Barbara or Ventura.
ESTABLISH A SPEAKERS BUREAU with names of AIGA members who would like to speak about their profession in order to educate businesses and civilians about our profession, its changes and impact in our community.
ESTABLISH A SCHOLARSHIP program and/or help develop and provide contacts of MENTORSHIPS/INTERNSHIPS for outstanding students in our field.
The Education Committee invites all members who are interested in our projects to join us and help develop and work on these programs. Please get in touch with Co-chairs Anna Lafferty or Barbara Obermeier to obtain more information and meeting times.
